Backup Data

The backup data option allows users to make a complete copy of their Net•Yield databases. Backup copies are used by the Net•Yield support department to restore user data in the event of a server crash or other network-related issue. It is also used to investigate any data integrity issues that the system may identify during the Complete Analysis data integrities.

You can set how many backup copies to keep within the Retention Options function. As new backup copies are made, the older copies are deleted. By default, the system will store the backup in the BACKUP folder of your system data folder, which is usually located within the shared data folder on the server volume. The user can re-name the individual backup folders and move them to another data path to keep archive copies of the databases as of a point in time (for instance, end of month or end of year). The backup data option may also be run automatically as part of the Close End of Day process.

1. Confirm that there are no users logged into Net•Yield by going to the Concurrent User option in the User menu.

2. After selecting the backup databases option from the message line, the message line displays "Do You Want to Backup the Databases? No/Yes."

3. The message line displays “Backup to: DATA\YOUR COMPANY\ BACKUP\ DATE and Time FOLDER. Continue? No/Yes." By default, the system will store the backup in the BACKUP folder of your system data folder, which is usually located within the C:/Program Files/Net•Yield folder or on a server volume.

A message line displays, "Backing Up databases, then Processing filename, Please wait." Depending on the size of your database, this process could take several minutes.

Note: If users are logged into the system, they must logout or you will not be able to backup the databases. The message line “XX users must logoff for you to be alone on the system !!! Space Bar to Continue” will appear if users are logged into the system. If this message displays, press the spacebar and a list of users logged into Net•Yield will appear. Confirm that no one is in Net•Yield, select the user from the list, and clear the user's login.

Note: If a file or files are open on the server, the error message “Trying to open filename …. Continue trying? No/Yes" will appear in the command line. If you select no, the backup process will be aborted and another error message will appear: “Need Exclusive use of Filename !!! Space bar to Continue." You will need to clear the open sessions or files on your server or terminal server. Contact your network administrator on how to clear open session and files on your network. If you select yes, the system will re-try the backup process. If you get the error message again, select no and follow the instructions above.

Best Practice: It is a good practice to backup your data on a regular basis, and even remove or copy the backup files to another machine or location.
